With "Not Much To Do" These Days...Are You Struggling With Finding Fun Things To Do?

having fun

Are you struggling with having fun?

Lacking structure at home for you and the kids? Not having the connection at school, at work or playtime (for kids and us, adults) during evenings and weekends and trying to rely on something other than electronics to motivate fun (or passing time) is proving to be a huge challenge for so many. Hours a day of technology, in turn, diminishes our motivation further, creates brain fog, and seems to zap our energy and the cycle continues.

Here are some ideas to check off your list to structure the day:

  • Exercise (for at least 15-20 minutes) + shower every morning even if you don't wash your hair.

  • Drink 16-32 oz of water every morning before eating or drinking anything else. Staying hydrated is HUGE for our health and our ability to focus.

  • Have at least 1 thing to look forward to every day.

So what is fun? What can we look forward to? Listen, some of your may be or may have nay sayer kiddos or lack such motivation at this point that you can't fathom motivating to create some fun...GO BY THE MOTTO...You don't know unless you try! I think you will find that there is a lot more fun to be had than you realize.

Give these ideas a try and see for yourself:

  • Find a recipe to bake (careful with eating processed sugar + flour) Choose gluten free flour + monk fruit sweetener or coconut sugar as healthier options

  • Find a yummy recipe + cook dinner with friends via zoom. I did this recently with a friend and for 2ish hours we laughed and prepped together and later shared how delicious the dinner was...the leftovers tasted just as good!

  • Have a taco night, Italian night, theme your days for food so you can have a plan and get creative around meals. For example: Meatless Mondays, Taco Tuesdays, Whacky Wednesdays (like you try a new recipe), and so on. BTW, Taco Tuesdays for us has branched out to Enchilada Casserole (with Siete Tortillas) and Burrito Bowls...you get the idea.

  • Paint a plate, mug, or a huge poster board sized paper (paint your feelings...put on some tunes and see what you create)

  • Play with play-do or make a silly putty to play with (like a science project) THIS IS FOR ALL AGES! Seriously.

  • On a nice day, create a maze or art with side walk chalk

  • Learn a card game or board game together and play (there are online games too where you can team up with other friends to play)

  • Create a scavenger hunt with prizes for whoever wins

  • Have a dance party. Share in the DJing of music and dance it out. (Amazing playlists on spotify or IG has some DJs spinning some great tunes)!

  • Water Balloon Fight/Water playing on a nice day

  • Go for a hike or long walk some place surrounded by trees (bundle up if its cold and bring a picnic or some hot cocoa for a little break half way through the walk).

  • Find 5 things outside, in nature, and pick them up to create an art project with

  • Create a Vision Board

  • Find a good book, share it with a few friends and create a reading group together to share about the book and keep you on task for reading!
